To prepare for this blog, I took a walk. While jotting down my notes, I got distracted by tasks I left open ended and detoured to lunch, notes abandoned. An hour later, I sat down to write and spent 45 minutes updating my profile instead, wondering if I had time to cram yet another research project into my mental agenda for the day.

Welcome to Gemini season.

RIP to Catherine O’Hara. Love you queen.

We’re off to the races! Gemini is an Air sign, bringing a breath (albeit slightly a chaotic one) of fresh air to our pursuits and mental bandwidth. Their zodiac symbol is the roman numeral two which represents Castor and Pollux, twins in Greek mythology. Twins show us parallels, reflect two sides of the same coin, and remind us that we mirror the energy we put out for better or for worse.

Ruled by the planet Mercury which governs communication, the mind, learning, and social activities/interests, Geminis are controversial, charming and witty. Even if they are introverted, there’s a part of themselves that has to be loudly expressed at all times. Not one to fill the status quo or blend in the crowd, their eclectic tastes manifest through their style, hobbies, art, and social groups. All Geminis have the superpower that is matching patterns, colors, disciplines, and pursuits together in combinations I would never expect or be able to pull off and I applaud them heartily.

Eloise by Kay Thompson and Hillary Knight is one of my favorite children's books. Her character has always reminded me of Geminis. Her many moods and adventures change on a dime, but she remains a fashion icon at the Plaza in New York City.

As leaders, Geminis can be found in multidisciplinary environments. Context and code switching come naturally. They’ll ask the questions no one thought to ask. Fantastic visionaries with a unique point of view, their adaptable nature is a major asset in corporate life particularly with start-ups. It’s rare I come across a Gemini who hasn’t changed industries and careers, trying different personas on for size until they find a fit. Like their sister sign Sagittarius,  it’s common for them to be well-traveled and multi-lingual. Their motives can be questioned often, since their dual nature empowers them to play devil's advocate on both sides of an issue. While this is great for non-biased mediation, it can backfire when they’re being looked to for a final decision. If they don’t take a clear stance, opting instead to cater to the crowd or distract with their charm, they can appear disingenuous or two-faced even if that wasn’t their intention.

On the flip side, they know when to switch things up. Easily bored, they’ll embrace changing their minds, artistic mediums, and routines. An evolved Gemini masters their diverse abilities by pairing their desire for constant stimulation with strategic guardrails. Innovative to a fault, (including extricating themselves from messes of their own making), they have their finger on the pulse of their office culture. I’m convinced the phrase “personality hire” was made just for them. When their energy is harnessed appropriately, they create engaging roadmaps for success that combine their mutability and individuality without sacrificing mastery and consistency.

Google naming their family of language models Gemini is starting to make more sense huh?

While multiple skill sets and moods are valuable to have, what goes up…must come down. Common pitfalls include oscillation between hyperfixation and distraction. It’s easy for Geminis to get lost in a labyrinth of their own making. After all, chasing the latest conspiracy theory seems more exciting than working on the third draft of their dream novel! If they’re not careful they’ll ruminate on the knowledge they’ve acquired instead of applying it. If they feel pigeonholed or burnt out, they’ll check out of their lives instead of setting up the systems that will help them get where they want to go.

I encourage Gemini placement EAs to prioritize a hobby outside of their 9-5 that looks nothing like their day job to blow off steam. You’re multifaceted and need room to show it! While structure is important, you're less likely to deviate from your goals when you regularly prioritize intentional free time to ideate, explore, and tinker. This will help you see your projects and dreams to completion without burnout or resentment.

This month, you can expect more chatter in slack, and a flood of ideas to be shared across your organization. Be discerning on which ones are worth chasing. Keep an eye on inter-office gossip as it may escalate more than normal. Protect yourself from being pulled in multiple directions. Notice your personal labyrinth. Was it necessary to derail your afternoon to work on a task you already know they’ll forget about till next quarter? How’s your screen time? Are you decompressing and getting eight hours of sleep? When you run around aimlessly you aren’t impactful or healthy.

Gemini Strategic Alignments

  • Be a trendsetter before it makes sense to anyone else.

  • Reduce sensory input before bed. Only one screen at a time.

  • Switch up your environment. Sometimes the task just needs a different room.

  • Lighten the mood in Slack with a well timed meme or inside joke

  • A good time to pick up a course or new language.

  • Listing the agenda is not the same as executing it. Let your actions do the talking.

  • You don’t need a third opinion.

  • Overhauling comms systems, performing slack channel audits, and providing learning resources will be received well right now.

  • Your Execs need time to learn too. Block off the cal and enroll them in the webinar they keep saying they’ll get to.

  • Practice speaking everyone's language. Double points if you can effectively translate a brain dump and tailor it to resonate with both the board and the marketing team.

  • Make a wind down ritual to tidy up loose ends at the end of each day/week.

  • Prioritize a brainstorming session with your team (even if that team is your multiple personalities).

  • Use voice memos and unload what needs to be revisited at a different time to free up brain space.

Gemini season is kooky, chaotic, eclectic, and inspiring!  Give yourself permission to try out different sides of yourself, show off what makes you stand out, and get okay with being ahead of the curve before everyone else catches up.

You’re the one they want to copy.
